Do you think that P&C is not for you, or that you can’t make a difference? Here are some myths that we want to bust about being a part of the P&C!

Myth 1: Joining the committee is just for mums.

REALITY: The Wishart State School P&C committee is definitely not just for mums, we welcome and encourage dads, stepparents, grandparents, teachers and school staff to be part of the P&C.

Myth 2: I work full time so I cannot help at school events.

REALITY: We understand that everyone is busy, with most of our members and volunteers being working parents. Meeting attendance is a great way to hear what is going on at school. There are many ways that you can help around the school, even if you do have work and other commitments, assistance with donations or participating in fundraisers is also appreciated.

Myth 3: If I come to the P&C, I will be locked into volunteering or get nominated to do things I do not want to do.

REALITY: You can choose to help at one event, all events or no events. You will never be forced into anything you do not want to do. Also, just because you volunteer once, does not mean you will have to continue to volunteer.

MYTH 4: I do not know anyone on the P&C, and it is probably really cliquey.

REALITY: Its actually a great way to meet new people and make some wonderful, life-long friends. We are all parents just like you and we do this because we enjoy making a difference to our children’s school. Feel free to bring a friend, the more the merrier.

MYTH 5: There are probably already enough volunteers for that event already.

REALITY: Wishart State School is a school of nearly 1,000 students. With the P&C having around 40 members that is only about 4% of our school community who are actively involved. There can NEVER be enough volunteers, we appreciate all the help we can get.

MYTH 6: One hour will not make a difference.

REALITY: It absolutely will. Every single minute of your time is valuable to us. We appreciate and encourage people to let us know their skills set and availability. You do not have to nominate to help at every event or any at all. It could be as simple as filling out our Just One Thing form to let us know what you are able to help with. One hour can make a huge difference to the P&C and Wishart State School.
